View to the North

4/1/20 We started late in the afternoon today and so didn't want to take on a big job. Conditions were good enough to do a controlled burn of unwanted grass and weeds north of the house.

Mark has been reclaiming and sculpting this area since 2015.  Once upon a time it was an orchard, but like a fairy tale, the woods choked the apple trees and crept to the foundations of the house.  Conditions for burning a brush pile were not as good.  It just didn't want to burn

4/2/20 The sun was shining and the temperature was perfect so more outside jobs were on the agenda.  This was a day for jobs that matter if you don't do them but go unnoticed if you do.
First there was septic tank maintenance.
This new waste management system doesn't need a drain field... unless you live where bureaucracy hasn't kept up with new systems. Then you get to spend $ in the amount of I-dont-want-to-talk-about-it AND you get to rinse a filter and  rake a cocoa fiber mat every six months!
And that's how we spend a gorgeous spring morning!

More fun in the afternoon with a "back-burner" job.
We are digging an 18 inch deep trench for the burial of our pet python. Not really.  This is for an electric line to a lamp post by the fire pit area.

For the past two years we were planning borrow a trencher but decided to just get on with it.
My shoes make it look like I am just sitting back and relaxing while Mark digs but I promise I was  scooping dirt too.
